Scarlett Johansson and Liev Schreiber Cover 'Time Out New York'

posted on Dec 16, 2009

Scarlett Johansson and her "A View From The Bridge" co-star, Liev Schreiber, share the retro chic cover and open up about their New Year's Eve plan on this coming week's issue of "Time Out New York."

So are you gonna go on double dates with your celebrity spouses?
Schreiber: Yes. We're going skating at Rockefeller Center. Next...Thursday? [Laughs]
Johansson: We have no time for dates. We work and then go home and-I, anyway-just stare at the wall for a few hours before I go to sleep.
Schreiber: I have kids. It's kind of amazing, actually: You go through all this stuff in rehearsal and you come home and they don't give a crap; they just want your full attention. It's been a total savior. [My two-and-a-half-year-old son] is like, “Daddeeeeee!” and he just wants to play. You dump the baggage right away and reconnect with all these human feelings. It's such a good hit.

Is it ever awkward to be busier than your partners?
Johansson: No, I think it's harder when both of you are really busy. Like in any profession, it's difficult. You want to make sure you have time to invest in your family. It's a challenge but it's worth it.

Even when you're getting the sort of work that the other might want?
Johansson: I don't think Naomi [Watts] is going for the same roles as Liev. [Laughs]
Schreiber: Though I've wanted a couple roles she's played. [Laughs]
Johansson: You just wanna wear the heels and the jewelry.
Schreiber: Yeah. No, but kids make a big difference. You want to be there all the time, and when you're both working, it's hard. You gotta negotiate with each other and support each other in that regard.

What are you guys doing for New Year's Eve?
Johansson: We're workng. On New Year's Day, at least. So, probably not much. You know, pizza would be nice. A little champagne. Maybe watch the Twilight Zone marathon. That's always a favorite for me.

And all with Ryan Reynolds. That's better than most of our New Year's plans.
Johansson: [Laughs] Going from one party to the next and surfing to find the right thing, and being in a taxicab when the clock strikes-I'm so over that stuff. At the ripe old age of 25. I have the most fun when I'm surrounded by people I love in one place that's comfortable and we can hear each other. You can play card games, watch movies, I'm happy. So, you can find me at da club with a bottle full of bub is what I'm trying to say.
Schreiber: Yeah, we'll probably be having a double date with the Twilight Zone marathon. There's a certain part after 1am when it becomes Outer Limits. That's a hard-core New Year's Eve.
Johansson: Yes. That's late, though. That's for people who are really hard-core.

See, you guys may not want to know each other, but I bet you have a lot in common. You're both New Yorkers, you're both in comic-book movies...
Schreiber: And we're both really, really hairy.
Johansson: That's true.
Schreiber: We're both half a Jew.
Johansson: Mustard or ketchup?
Both in unison: Mustard. [Laughs]
Johansson: Okay, you're right, we do have a lot in common.
